Awww… I started to read with all the smile on my face, thought it’s funny you use this metaphor, but towards the end, just feel so sorry for you. Such a foodie with all the expectations to enjoy the best paella but he couldn’t swallow at the last moment. But there always up and downs, you’re the best runner, you will win your paella finally! I’m always supporting you!
Too bad you could not enjoy the paella. I once ordered one in Soria that looked sketchy, but no ill effects. Your post brought me back to the time I enjoyed some rabbit at a restaurant just SW of Andorra in '88, with the customary "pa amb tomàquet" appetizer. A moment of gustatory bliss. Cheers!
The preparation, the expectation, the anticipation are part of enjoyment of the journey of life. That looking forward to and getting ready is one of the things that I savor. Sometimes that thin curst magerhitta pizza you have been dreaming about for 4 hours with only 1/2 a gel and 3000 vertical feet is realized; other times your daughter is late to pick you up and the restaurant is closed and all you get is Dominos. But - each new day is another day to prepare, to anticipate and to get ready for the next time. Keep going!

I hope your sore throat gets better soon. Can't wait to watch you crush your next big meal!
